Everyone begins their Upward Credit Union journey with a Savings Account. From here, the possibilities are endless. As a member-owner of a not-for-profit credit union, you’ll enjoy benefits like lower rates, higher yields, fewer fees, and personalized service.

1. Confirm Your Eligibility

You are eligible to join Upward if you:

• Are an immediate family member of a current Upward Credit Union member

• Live in San Mateo County, CA

• Work for a business organization in San Mateo County, CA

• Retired from a business organization in San Mateo County, CA

• Are a current or retired employee, or auxiliary member of:

  • – Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City, CA

  • – Mills-Peninsula Health Services or one of its subsidiaries

  • – Pathways Home Health and Hospice, Mountain View, CA

  • – Vitalant blood services provider

2. Gather the Following Information for all Account Owners

• Physical U.S. address

• Phone number and email address

• Date of birth and Social Security number or ITIN

• Unexpired Government-Issued Photo Identification – such as a Driver’s License, ID Card, Passport, Military ID, or Resident Card

• Have the ability to fund your account/membership with $25 – you may use a debit card or account number from your current financial institution.

Upward Credit Union is federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which is administered by the NCUA, so you can rest assured knowing your money is protected in the unlikely event of loss.

• The NCUA, National Credit Union Administration, is an independent agency of the U.S. government that regulates federal credit unions

• Insurance is automatic – there’s no need to sign up

• All individual members are insured up to $250,000 of coverage. Joint accounts are insured up to $500,000.

• Review the NCUA Share Insurance Brochure for more information on coverage.

• Use the NCUA Share Insurance Estimator to calculate your total coverage.

Additionally, as an added perk of membership, you are covered even MORE with $250,000 of Excess Share Insurance through American Share Insurance. This benefit is compliments of Upward Credit Union.
